A Contact Improvisation Weekend

Cheshire · 30 July to 3 August 2026

A weekend to gather around Contact Improvisation.

To dance, to meet, and to spend time together in practice.

The invitation

This is a residential long weekend centred on Contact Improvisation.

We come together to dance, learn, and share space as a community.

The structure is simple.

Mornings are guided classes.

Afternoons open into additional workshops or time outside.

Evenings are dedicated to jams.

The rhythm allows for both activity and rest, with time to connect across the weekend.

This gathering is shaped by the local Contact Improvisation community, with contributions from those who feel called.

The focus is on being together, and dancing in a shared field over the weekend.

This page calls for expressions of interest.

We will confirm the final details at a later date.

The place

We gather on an old farmhouse site in the heart of Cheshire.

There is a simple studio for dancing, with surrounding land to rest, walk, and spend time outside.

Hosted by the Beech Hill community, the space is lived in and shared. We eat together, spend time around the fire, and move between dancing and everyday life.

Evenings continue with jams, with space to dance, rest, or sit together.

A sauna will be available at night.

The site is easily accessible from Manchester, Liverpool, and across the North West.

The practice

This weekend focuses on Contact Improvisation as a physical and relational practice.

We explore principles such as weight sharing, balance, listening, and timing through direct experience.

Classes offer material to work with.

Jams offer space to apply and explore it.

Evenings gather into shared jams, where the practice continues through dancing together.

There will be opportunities for different facilitators and participants to contribute across the weekend.

The emphasis is on being in the practice together, through doing, sensing, and responding.

Open to all levels, including those newer to the form, with some familiarity or curiosity to engage.

We welcome dancers, movers, and those interested in working through the body.

What matters most is a willingness to participate, respect the space, and be with others in practice.
